Tell us a little about yourself. (How did you get started writing? What do you do when you are not writing?
Not including a brief period in my early life where I was convinced owning a pet store was the best job anyone could ever have, I always wanted to be a writer. I decided to take it more seriously when I was staying home with my kids. I had the time and I knew if I didn’t try I would always regret it. When I’m not writing or working my day job, I love to go thrifting. My house is full of strange, old things I’ve found over the years and it makes me so happy to just sit in the space surrounded by things I treasure.
Where does your inspiration come from in your books?
There isn’t one main source of inspiration. I keep a notebook with me so when ideas pop into my head I can write them down. I take ideas from shows, other books, people watching, my friends, my kids. Often after a unique interaction or experience I think about how I would write it down in a novel.
How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
I’ve written a lot of books but my only published novel is Sea and Flame. However, I recently realized I wanted to focus on writing queer adult fantasy novels, romantic of course. Right now, I’m editing the second Sea and Flame novel, and working on a series called As Played by Gods. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with it yet as far as publishing goes. I’ll think that over once this book debuts.
Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? What makes them so special?
Yes. The main character in As Played by Gods, Briar Constance. She’s a complete mess, kind of a bad person, and an absolute blast to write. I can’t wait to share her with the world, so far my betas have loved her as much as I have.
Can you share a brief excerpt from your novel?
What can we expect from you in the future?
Well Sea and Flame comes out on March 9th and I’ll be sending the second novel from that to my publisher soon. After that my focus will be on adult fantasy novels so keep an eye out for those.
