Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Skye Horn and I am the author of the best-selling YA fantasy romance series, Kingdoms of Faerie. My love of writing blossomed from love of reading, so I tend to do a lot of reading in my spare time. Storytelling has always been a passion of mine, and honestly, I can’t imagine life without a book or a pen in my hand. I was born and raised in Southern California and currently live in a small mountain town with my husband and two dogs. Outside of writing, I really enjoy traveling the world (prior to COVID of course)— I have visited a total of 13 different countries and cannot wait to continue those travels when it’s safe again!
Where does your inspiration come from in your books?
Kingdoms of Faerie really came to life for me during a trip to Ireland that my husband and I took in 2017. I became obsessed with Celtic myth and lore, as well as the idea of the Fae during that trip, and the story never left my head from that point forward. I did not actually start writing the first book, Wings of Fate, until the end of 2019, but a lot of the inspiration for characters, villains, and worldbuilding were born on a bus through the Irish countryside. Outside of traveling, I find a lot of my inspiration also comes from music. I grew up in a very
musical home and I guess it rubbed off on me. Sometimes I will listen to a song I really like over and over again, only to find a story developing in my imagination throughout the day. That is actually how my current work in progress came about.
How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
I have been writing since I was in high school, so there are a lot of unfinished books/series saved on my computer or buried in old notebooks. (If you’re a writer who is reading this, I’m sure you know what I mean!) But to answer your question, I’ve written four complete books. The first three books of my Kingdoms of Faerie series are available on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited to read right now, and the fourth book is available to pre-order. I want to say that Wings of Fate (book 1) was my favorite to write, because it was a time in my life when I was
rediscovering my love of storytelling. However, after finishing the fourth and final book in the series, Wings of Insurgence, that book has a special place in my heart now too. It’s a totally new experience for me to end a series, since I’ve never done that before. Saying goodbye to these characters has been an emotional rollercoaster, but I’ve loved every
second of telling their stories.
Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? What makes them so
At the moment, my favorite character is Adrian. He is a secondary character in the third and fourth book of my series who starts as someone the reader really does not like, but has slowly grown into a fan (and author) favorite. I don’t want to spoil anything for my future readers, but I will say that even though Adrian was a secondary character in the books, he will eventually have a primary role to play in future series, which I absolutely cannot wait for.
Can you share a brief excerpt from your novel?
What can we expect from you in the future?
In the near future I will be releasing the fourth and final book of my Kingdoms of Faerie series, Wings of Insurgence. After that, I have plans for a spin-off series within the same universe, as well as a completely new project that is currently in the works. I can’t give away too much information about this, but I will tell you that it is going to be a New Adult Paranormal Romance series. If you’re interested in that type of storytelling, you can follow me on Instagram @skyehorn_author to see snippets and get updates on my future projects! I also have a newsletter on my website where readers can get a free prequel to my series if they are interested in checking out my writing style.
